Can't believe it's been a year since I've posted anything but then it has been such a crazy busy year. I won't go into any detail other than to say I've quilted lots of quilts for clients, dyed yards and yards of fabric, made several quilts myself, and joined three new quilting groups. I do hope to get back to posting on a regular basis and sharing more of my creative journey through life with my readers.
I've been working on a lot of improv quilts lately and want to share one of my latest art quilts.

After making all of the blocks, I then made this big piece to cut up for the border.

Here is the finished quilt along with a close up of the blocks.

So thats it for today. Hope to be back before the year is up!

String Quilts

It has been a while since I've done a blog post, and I guess it's too far past the holidays to use that for an excuse. I have been quilting a lot of quilts for customers though. I recently quilted the following quilt for a client and got really inspired to make a similar version.

Here is the one that I am working on. It is made with my hand dyes as well as some of my batiks. I've also used other batiks and prints.

This is a string quilt that I did in the past. It is one of my favorite kind of quilts even though it is traditional. It has endless variations depending on the types of fabric used.

Hopefully I'll be back soon with more pictures.

Batiks With Soy Wax

This week I finally got around to making some batiks with soy wax. I have had this wax for a couple of years, but couldn't find the time to get into that kind of project. I had tried some batiking about ten years ago with paraffin and beeswax and it was time consuming. This time I just pulled out some hand-dyed fat quarters that were more pastel than what I like working with, heated up the soy wax and applied it using different designs.

After letting them dry overnight I painted them with dye.

After washing, drying and ironing, this is how they turned out.

I will not be waiting two more years before I try soy wax batiking again.

More Freeform Quilting

Does anyone seriously make this kind of mess when creating? I just get into that zone and start pulling scraps out from all over the place. I end up with a two foot space to work, on a table that is 4 x 8 feet.

Freeform quilting is a great way to free your mind and get your creative juices flowing. It doesn't have to be perfect and seams do not have to match. It's also a good way to use lots of different fabrics.

Next I will be blogging about printing on fabric.

I later added beads. This took a while, but was very enjoyable.

This is a free form style wall hanging made from my handyed fabric.

Here are pics from a dyeing day. I like to dye lots of fat quarters in different color runs.
