Batiks With Soy Wax

This week I finally got around to making some batiks with soy wax. I have had this wax for a couple of years, but couldn't find the time to get into that kind of project. I had tried some batiking about ten years ago with paraffin and beeswax and it was time consuming. This time I just pulled out some hand-dyed fat quarters that were more pastel than what I like working with, heated up the soy wax and applied it using different designs.

After letting them dry overnight I painted them with dye.

After washing, drying and ironing, this is how they turned out.

I will not be waiting two more years before I try soy wax batiking again.

More Freeform Quilting

Does anyone seriously make this kind of mess when creating? I just get into that zone and start pulling scraps out from all over the place. I end up with a two foot space to work, on a table that is 4 x 8 feet.

Freeform quilting is a great way to free your mind and get your creative juices flowing. It doesn't have to be perfect and seams do not have to match. It's also a good way to use lots of different fabrics.

Next I will be blogging about printing on fabric.

I later added beads. This took a while, but was very enjoyable.

This is a free form style wall hanging made from my handyed fabric.

Here are pics from a dyeing day. I like to dye lots of fat quarters in different color runs.

Free Form Piecing

This is a new blog, so I'm going to start with showing some of my past work. This is the art quilt which is on my blog background. It is made from my hand-dyed fabrics and quilted on my longarm. I love making non traditional quilts, art quilts and my own designs.

Here are some close ups of the stitching. It is fun doing detailed stitching on my longarm.

Hope you enjoyed these pictures and I will be posting again soon on some of my fabric dyeing.
